Narconon Louisiana Contributes to Animal Shelter

This August, the West Feliciana Animal Humane Society in St. Francisville, Louisiana hosted a fundraising event in support of the James L. “Bo” Bryant Animal Shelter in that town. Staff from the Narconon New Life Retreat, located in the nearby town of Denham Springs, were on hand at the event, including Cathy Steiner, the CEO of the Narconon center. “I have loved animals my whole life and have always had animals as part of my family with most of those animals being strays who needed a home,” said Steiner. “Supporting an animal shelter allows me to help even more animals since I can’t take them all home!”

Steiner and her colleagues were at the fundraiser to take part in the festivities and visit with the animals, and she was photographed getting fully into the spirit of things at the kissing booth with a dog named Roy. The Narconon visit to the West Feliciana Animal Humane Society fundraiser was not, however, only for fun but also to make a major contribution to the cause. The rehab center made a major impact on the event by donating a car to the animal shelter, a gift that will be put to good use by the shelter in their efforts to help stray cats and dogs find good homes in the community.

“While I have spent most of my life helping people,” Steiner said in comments about the donation, “I also know how incredibly rewarding it is to save an animal’s life. We have several adopted dogs at Narconon Louisiana and I have seen how therapeutic it is for our clients. Struggling with overcoming addiction can be an overwhelming task and the dogs can actually assist in the recovery process.” Indeed, it is a widely accepted fact that dogs and other companion animals can provide a great deal of support and comfort to people who are suffering from a wide range of conditions, and they are frequently found in elderly homes, rehab centers and similar settings.

The Narconon New Life Retreat clients get the opportunity to spend time enjoying the company of the dogs that now call the center home, something that provides a welcome diversion and form of recreation for the people there who are making a fresh start in their lives.

The James L. “Bo” Bryant Animal Shelter

The James L. “Bo” Bryant Animal Shelter opened its doors to the public in August of 2012, as a joint effort of the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and the West Feliciana Parish Police Jury. The shelter was founded with the purpose of helping to find homes for stray dogs and cats in the area, and in the two years since it was opened, it has served to match up a large number of individuals and families with their new pets. The donation made by the Narconon New Life Retreat will make a considerable difference for the shelter, and the staff of the shelter were grateful for the contribution they received. It was a perfect example of how the New Life Retreat and other Narconon centers located around the United States regularly reach out to support individuals and organizations in their communities.

The staffs of Narconon centers consist of people who are committed to helping others, and they are routinely found volunteering at local events or otherwise contributing their time and efforts to making the lives of others better. A common example is when Narconon drug prevention education specialists give talks at local schools, where middle and high school students learn the facts about drugs and get armed with the information they need to make the right choices in the future. Whether it’s educating young people or donating a car to the local animal shelter, the New Life Retreat and other Narconon centers are known as a force for good in the community.
