Hand Me Another Bar—No Not a Chocolate Bar

Xanax OD

According to HealthResearchFunding.org, the average person with a Xanax addiction will take between 20-30 pills every day. The drug severely inhibits a person’s reasoning ability and, in addition, it is often mixed with other drugs and alcohol.

There are reported cases of addicts using 2000mg of Xanax at one time and not suffering an overdose. Which has lead to part of the problem with Xanax being considered a safe drug. The problem?

Xanax is frequently mixed with other substances which can make it more likely to cause an overdose. The reality is Xanax is one of the worst drugs of abuse but because it is not solely responsible for many overdose deaths, its overlooked.

This completely discounts the fact that a lot of violence and damage done to property and families have been tied to Xanax abuse. When I was experimenting with drugs, many people I had met who were not opiate addicts—and so though they didn’t have an addiction—told me disturbing stories of them using Xanax.

This one girl who really only smoked weed told me how she ended up in the psych ward for a 48-hour hold. After she pulled a kitchen knife on her mom when she confronted her for coming home way too late at night.

Another girl told me how she woke up face down in the street in front of her house with bruises on her body with no recollection of what happened. It had been 8 days since she said that happened and she still had no idea what happened.

A guy I met who didn’t consider himself an addict told me how Xanax was his favorite drug because it was like taking a gamble he’d either wake up with a bunch of money he stole or wake up in jail.

Though many people turn a blind eye to Xanax and its potential abuse the drug can cause some dangerous situations. Oh, and that thing about it being mostly safe while taken alone, well here is the thing—“49% of teens will take Xanax with at least one other drug, such as alcohol.” Mixing two depressants greatly escalates the risk of overdose.

If someone you know is abusing Xanax it is absolutely a big deal and you need to take action. Before they end up in jail, a psych ward, or dead.
