CAUSES OF ADDICTION
For many people, experiencing trauma such as sexual, physical, emotional abuse or severe loss sets them on a path toward substance abuse and addiction. Understanding this can enable you to help a person who is using drugs and may be starting on that path.
We’ve often heard the question “Can someone be predisposed to addiction?” The question indicates that there can be something inherently or genetically different about a person that makes him more likely to use drugs and alcohol.
“The opioid epidemic.” We hear this line on the news, on social media, in discussions within our communities, and so on. It is a well-known fact at this point that the United States is struggling with an opioid epidemic.
Can science cure addiction? This is one of those age-old questions. Highly debated. Constantly contested. Rarely agreed upon. We’re always hearing about the scientific research studies where scientists are able to supposedly “cure” addiction in lab rats.
This is probably the most debated subject in the field of drug use and alcoholism. It is extremely controversial, and people rarely see eye to eye on it. And in just a few paragraphs we are going to crack this wide open.
