What is the environment like at Narconon Arrowhead?

Lobby and lounge

The main lodge rests on a rise overlooking Lake Eufaula and distant hills. The lodge has a natural style that harmonizes with the rocky, rolling hills.

The front entrance opens into a large atrium with offices on one side and expansive views on the other. To the east, a large deck offers students a comfortable place to relax and watch the abundant wildlife and the change of the seasons. When studies are done for the day, this is where students gather to talk, read or work on crafts. When family members come to visit, there’s plenty of quiet corners where they can have a chat and catch up on the changes their loved ones are experiencing.

To the left and right, long hallways lead to administrative offices and accommodations. The hallways enter the atrium at sharp angles because the entire lodge is designed to resemble an arrowhead. Even the reception desk is shaped like the point of an arrow.

Male and female students have their rooms on separate wings. There is also a special section of the lodge set aside for those going through withdrawal. In this special unit, staff take special care of these students, supporting them with around-the-clock supervision, generous nutritional supplementation to help calm the symptoms of withdrawal and plenty of one-on-one assistance. Because of all this support, most people find their time in the Withdrawal Unit to be a positive experience.

On looping roads to the to the north and south of the lodge, there are dozens of cabins that house many of the staff. Thus there are staff available to assist the students at any time of the day or night and in any weather conditions.

What is the setting like around Narconon Arrowhead?

The lodge is surrounded by hundreds of acres of thickly wooded parkland. The park is shared with deer, turkey, raccoons, possum, rabbits, coyotes and a wide variety of brilliantly-colored songbirds. It’s not uncommon to see a mother deer and her two spotted babies strolling by, right outside the lodge.

Many of the students’ rooms offer views of Lake Eufaula, the largest lake in Oklahoma. The other rooms look out on the canopy of oaks that changes its colors with the seasons. The sweeping vistas, gently rolling hills and abundance of fresh air and sunshine offer their own healing influences. The loudest sound might be the cry of a bird or the wind rustling through the trees. This is an environment as far removed as possible from the dark, dangerous lives most people were living before their arrivals.

What amenities exist for those in recovery?

When they are not engaged in classes or other recovery activities, those in recovery at Narconon Arrowhead enjoy playing basketball, tennis, volleyball or visiting the weight room. They may spend time watching a movie in the lounge or playing pool.

Some days, there may be organized walks through the park. In the summer, this means walking down shady paths and in the winter, they could be passing through a wonderland of trees turned to crystal by a coating of ice.

During the warmer months, there’s trips to the lake to swim or have a barbecue. Around the holidays, events are organized so that even though they are in rehab, the students feel like they can enjoy the kinds of events they would have taken part in at home.
