An Addict Sheds His Guilt and Moves On
Addicts are usually pretty oblivious to the ways they may be affecting those close to them with their addictions. They also may have experienced awful consequences in their own lives, but losing their homes, cars, or friends may mean little to them at the time. They are completely engulfed with their cravings and the search for that next fix or drink. Darin lost everything to drugs, but then he finally he decided he would get it all back.
Darin explained: “I was traveling around the country making really good money and spending it all on drugs. I was neglecting my family, my friends, everything that was important to me. They all missed me so much. I lost everything. I lost my house, my family, and multiple jobs. It was all gone.”
He added, “My drug use affected the people around me in more ways than I realized. Now I know what I was doing to the people around me and how much danger I was putting them in. And myself! I could have killed someone with the kind of work I do. I never really thought about that before when I was doing drugs and working on these multi-million dollar projects. I really could have hurt somebody. Also with the struggle that I put my mother through, it’s incredible that she is still there for me.”
Darin found Narconon and this is how he made the needed changes in his life. Narconon is a drug and alcohol rehab program with a highly successful treatment program that provides lasting recovery from addiction. After going through withdrawal, the recovering addict does an effective sauna detox which removes harmful drug residues from his (or her) body. He then proceeds to do life skills training. As he comes to realize his own responsibility in what happened to him, he can shed the guilt and move forward in life.
Darin said, “The biggest change happened in the middle of the program. I discovered who and what I am. This brought me into the present so I no longer have to be haunted by my past. I can continue from this point forward. I know I’m going to be a better person for it and I know I’m going to succeed now.”
He continued, “I felt incredible after I finished the program. I felt a sense of accomplishment that I haven’t felt in years. I got so many wins and gains from the Narconon program that I don’t even know where to start. It was one win after another from the time I got here until now. I changed 100 percent from the person that I was when I came in here. It changed my life!”
