Giving Addicts Back Their Lives

Narconon Arrowhead Testimonies

An addict caught in the grip of his (or her) addiction does not think clearly. His calls for help are usually weak. His decision to get help for the addiction can be here today but be gone tomorrow. It is usually up to family or friends to take matters into their own hands to get the addicted person into rehab.

Once an effective rehab program is found, the addict can truly achieve lasting recovery. Narconon is just such a drug and alcohol rehab program. With a highly effective treatment model, Narconon can turn an addict’s life around and put him back in control of his life and future. The steps of Narconon recovery give the person the ability to remain drug-free and live an ethical and productive life.

Heather told of her success at Narconon. “I feel what the Narconon program has given back to me is this: Heather is back!“ She laughed. “The rest of it is being able to stay in today and go forward. I know that I’m not always going to be an addict and an alcoholic—that I am Heather and that I won’t have to use drugs or alcohol ever again.”

Narconon does not subscribe to the theory that addiction is an incurable disease. Addicts can and do recover on the Narconon rehab program and go on to achieve their goals and dreams, never needing to turn to drugs or alcohol again. As one person said who finished the program, “Now I can look at something and I know whether I’m right or wrong about it, because of the technology I’ve learned here. It takes the stress off of living. I live a happier life now because I have what it takes to make the right decisions.“

This Narconon graduate was talking about the life skills training each recovering addict receives as the final step. The education received in this series of courses is invaluable, not only immediately after the person finishes the program, but for his entire life. The knowledge and tools learned prepare the recovering addict to live a fulfilling life, knowing he can accomplish whatever he sets his mind to.

Those who finished the program have made comments such as, “I know now that I am in control. I have the power to make decisions, to do the right thing. I don’t have to be a slave to my desires or to my past. I can do what I want to do.” And another: “My future was a graveyard as an addict. I would have died and been done for. And now, I have no limits. I can do whatever I set my mind to.”

Some of the courses in the life skills training lineup include the Ups and Downs in Life Course where the student learns how to recognize characteristics of people who will support his sober lifestyle. The Objectives Course is where the recovering individual learns how to communicate effectively and through a series of exercises is able to brighten his perceptions and ability to focus on the present.

Many of those who have finished the program talk about leaving with their head held high, looking forward to the future. Perhaps the most emotional testimony is what one young man said: “I lost my best friend about ten years ago, and I found him again. That was me.” Narconon is so proud to give these people back their lives.
