Narconon Rehab Facilities in Mexico Earn Recognition from the National Commission for Mental Health and Addiction

On August 13th, government officials from the states of Mexico, Puebla and Sonora along with representatives from several private organizations gathered at the headquarters of Narconon Latin America in Villa Victoria to officially award the drug rehabilitation organization’s three key centers in Mexico with the important National Commission for Mental Health and Addiction recognition (CONSAMA).

As an administrative body of Mexico's Secretariat of Health responsible for coordinating and overseeing mental-health and addiction services, CONSAMA provides assurances that residential drug/alcohol rehabilitation facilities meet specific standards of care that put ethical treatment and users' human rights at the center of their services.

All attendees received a tour of Narconon’s training center, built into a stunning hacienda in Villa Victoria, where every detail was designed to create an aesthetic, positive, and supportive environment for those participating in the program.

Residential centers must be safe, dignified spaces that are free from discrimination and stigma”, noted Dr. Yerania Emireé Enriquez Lopez, National Commissioner for Mental Health and Addiction, when presenting Narconon with CONSAMA’s recognition.

Receiving the recognition from CONSAMA is more than just a document, as the Director of Mental Health and Addiction for the State of Puebla, Karen De La Cuesta Soria pointed out in her address to the crowd: “More than simply fulfilling a series of requirements, this recognition represents the dedication and continuous effort of a team that has made quality, safety, and respect for people its primary objectives.”

The Mexican federal government has committed to coming to grips with the growing challenge of drug and alcohol addiction within its greater population. When the Executive Director of Narconon Puebla got up to speak, he commented, “President Claudia Sheinbaum has emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes, strengthening prevention, and providing care to those who are already facing addiction. From civil society, we want to contribute to that vision. Receiving this certification from the National Commission for Mental Health and Addiction represents much more than obtaining a document.

“It represents trust. But above all, it represents responsibility. Our commitment is to prevent, educate, and help people free themselves from drugs, reclaim their lives, and return to their families. Today, there are three certified centers. But our true goal is not to count centers. It is to count lives recovered.”
