Get Off Drugs, Get Back to Work, and Have a Normal Life

Nathan K., Narconon Graduate

I was born and raised in California am still a resident of that State. I am a successful businessman with a great wife and family.

As a child I hung out with my mother, went to school and played sports. One thing that I really like was playing football.

However, like a lot of California kids, I started drinking when I was 12, started smoking weed when I was 13 and moved onto meth when I was 16, which I smoked with my cousins. I was also taking a prescription of the painkiller Norco (an addictive opioid drug) for a while.

The drug use went from semi-recreational use to taking drugs while at work, regular use at parties and finally full addiction. I managed to stop using for about 5 years as my girlfriend at the time did not do drugs and did not want me to do them. But the addiction was not really handled and when that relationship ended, I went straight back to doing meth.

My life while addicted was horrible. I manifested what is known as “meth psychosis”, continued to take drugs at work and partying, lost my 10-year job and could not hold other jobs. I did not get along with people and people did not want to be around me.

Things were not going well with my family―my mother was ill, I was fighting with my father, and it reached the point that I knew I had to do something about it.

I told my aunt that I needed help and she took charge and to this day I consider her an angel. She told me to pack a bag, put me on a plane and sent me to Narconon Louisiana.

I knew about Narconon as my cousin had successfully done the Narconon program. I went into the program looking forward to it and determined to beat the addiction. The staff were great and I made a lot of friends, some of whom I am still in touch with by Facebook.

The sauna detoxification part of the program was great, and I knew it was working as I could smell the meth as it came out of my body. But my biggest wins were on processes known as objectives which bring your attention out of the past and into the present. On this part of the program I really noticed a change in how I was thinking.

My goal was to get off drugs, get back to work, and have a normal life. I even started lining up jobs while I was still on the program. Since completing the program I have accomplished all of these things. I got married, got my contractor’s license and now own and run my own business.

“There is a way out and that there is help out there, if you are willing to work for it. Narconon worked for me and I recommend it to anyone.”

My relationships with family are all fixed and good, and life went from hard when I was addicted, to easy. While doing drugs I had no clue what having a normal life went. Now I have more than that, I have a great life.

What I tell others who have substance abuse problems is that there is a way out and that there is help out there, if you are willing to work for it. Narconon worked for me and I recommend it to anyone.
