Discovering a Bright Future after Addiction

An addict will hit rock bottom and not even really be aware of it. The drugs cloud his (or her) judgment so that all they can see is the need to get the next pill or drink. This is what happened to Cheryl and she tells how it played out.

“I had allowed my nursing license to lapse so I wasn’t practicing nursing anymore. I had gotten a divorce from my husband. I lost my home and was living in my parent’s basement. I had nothing to look forward to. I was so wrapped up in my drug addiction that I pretty much alienated myself from my friends and almost all of my family. I didn’t answer my phone or go out anywhere except, of course, if I had to go meet my dealer. That was it. I was basically going to die.”

Narconon saves addicted lives every day and Narconon saved Cheryl’s life. The program is designed to address both the mental and physical sides of addiction in a very effective way. Unlike other traditional drug rehab programs, Narconon has a special sauna detoxification which is done after the withdrawal process is complete. In this detox, the recovering addict does daily moderate exercise along with time in a low heat sauna, and takes an exact measure of vitamins and minerals which combine with other parts of the sauna program to flush out drug residues and toxins. With these harmful toxins removed from the system, the participant feels more alive, more alert and has foggy thinking lift and disappear. Drug cravings are often greatly reduced.

Another vital phase of Narconon treatment is the life skills training coming as the final step. This training consists of courses where the recovering individual has the opportunity for self-discovery. Rather than have someone else tell him what is wrong with him or what he did wrong in life, the student finds out for himself what his weaknesses are and how he got trapped in a world of addiction. He can turn his life around using reliable tools which he learns as he progresses through the course of study.

Cheryl said how she benefited from the Narconon program. “The Narconon program really did give me the steps I needed to apply in my daily life. It helped me understand and be in control of these issues, painful issues that happened. You learn how to deal with those and come to terms with them. It taught me how to make amends, to forgive yourself and to allow other people to forgive you. That was a huge thing. I had done so much to other people that I didn’t think there was any way out of it.” But there was and Cheryl found she could shed her guilt and move on with her life.

She added, “I can’t reiterate enough how I didn’t really think I had a future. I couldn’t tell what was going to happen with me. Now I can see it! I see myself twenty years from now. I see myself fifty years from now. It looks pretty good!” She smiles.

With the Narconon program, a person addicted to drugs or alcohol has a great chance at lasting recovery. She can go back home with the confidence that she can remain clean and sober and can have a bright and happy future.
