In the capital city of Uganda, there are many parts of the city infested with slums. Too many of the residents of these cities are children who are not being cared for. Half the entire population of Uganda is under 17 years of age. Literacy is low, poverty is high, as is crime, forced labor and slavery.

It is no wonder that children in Uganda might resort to drug abuse to dull the pain and hunger they feel. With the little money they might get in their hands, they may choose to buy some marijuana, alcohol, opiates or inhalants like glue or fuel. Most of these drugs will make them forget their hunger.

But new hope has arrived in the form of Narconon drug prevention classes. Led by Nelson Nuwahereza, a teacher in Uganda, volunteers use the Narconon drug education techniques to develop a desire to be sober in youth in many cities. Nelson takes this message all over the Central Africa country. From Kampala slums to Buganda, Mbarara, Kanwengye and other parts of Uganda, Nelson has been tireless in delivering the message that drugs are deadly and that life is much more enjoyable when you have goals and are sober.

In a few years, Nelson has reached tens of thousands of Ugandan youth. But that was not enough. Knowing he could not reach all the children by himself, he taught four hundred teachers the Narconon drug prevention message so they could pass this message on to their students. He has also collected helpers who travel with him all over the country to deliver more drug prevention lectures.

There is still much to be done. But Nelson continues to deliver the Narconon drug prevention message and teach people how they can use the Narconon materials to help people come off drugs in a humane, tolerable manner.
