“Since I began working at Narconon Louisiana, I have always gotten a lot out of watching students change throughout their programs,” says Stephen of the Narconon New Life Retreat in Denham Springs, Louisiana. “About two and a half years ago, I made a commitment to take better care of myself by eating healthier and physical conditioning. Through dieting and exercise, I gained a lot of self-esteem, energy, and a renewed confidence.”

People who come to Narconon typically enjoy this type of revitalization as a result of the actions they take on the program. They’re usually eating a more nutritious diet than they have in years; they’re getting a full night’s sleep every night; they exercise every day, and they get to flush their bodies clean of the accumulated toxic residues left behind by years of drug abuse. Narconon sets the person on a new path in life, one that is healthier, more energetic and more enjoyable. But Stephen took things further than most others, and he became a certified personal trainer. “I wanted to give that to the Narconon students, so I went to school and received my certification and I am now able to train both staff and students. This is my way of giving back and sharing my experiences and knowledge on diet and exercise. I look forward to helping them improve physically, which will increase their esteem and confidence.”

Stephen sought his certification as a personal trainer through the International Alliance for Fitness Professionals (IAFPros), an organization with a history dating back to 1996. The IAFPros has the stated mission of providing students with an affordable route to achieving professional certification so they can work to improve their own lives and the lives of others.

They offer a training program that covers subjects including fitness, wellness, nutrition, health and physical education, and they strive to help their students become the best of the best in their area. In short, the IAFPros program helps a person learn the necessary skills, techniques, and knowledge to guide others along a path towards a better level of fitness and an overall happier life. It was an ideal program for Stephen in his search for ways to help the men and women at the Narconon New Life Retreat, and now that he has completed his education and has passed all the necessary tests, the center can now boast of having their own certified personal trainer on staff.

Clients of the Narconon center in Louisiana who want to take advantage of the opportunity to work with Stephen as their personal trainer will be spending their free time doing so in the center’s workout room, which is set up with equipment and gear to facilitate a variety of exercises. This is only one of the amenities available at the Narconon center in Louisiana, which is situated on 15 acres of mellow pine forests where clients can go for long peaceful walks or sit and take in the beautiful scenery.

There is also a swimming pool for exercise or simply to cool off on the hot summer days, as well as a deck where clients can relax and read or socialize during their free time. Inside, students can enjoy the pool table, watch movies or sporting events on TV, or play games with their friends. The Narconon New Life Retreat does not bill itself as a luxury resort or spa as do many drug rehab centers, but it nevertheless provides many opportunities for students to enjoy themselves and spend their free time getting fit and having fun in the process.
