RELATIVE TO COMMENDING NARCONON

WHEREAS, Narconon has been operating as a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the reduction of crime and drug/alcohol abuse in the State of California since 1972; and

WHEREAS, During this time, Narconon has taken the initiative to provide service to inmates of the Department of Corrections at various institutions within the state; and

WHEREAS, Narconon has also provided service to wards of the state in Youth Authority facilities; and

WHEREAS, Narconon has provided its services to the communities of Los Angeles, Berkeley, Palo Alto, San Jose, Redwood City, and Sacramento; and

WHEREAS, As a result of these services, persons who participate in Narconon programs in these institutions have been shown to have a marked decrease in disciplinary infractions while inside the institutions and a high degree of nonrecidivism when released on parole; and

WHEREAS, Narconon has developed a means of detoxifying drug-dependent persons with a marked reduction in the discomfort normally associated with this process, without medication or drug-substitution; and

WHEREAS, Narconon has developed a reputation for being well staffed, well organized, dedicated, and cooperative with the state’s agencies with which Narconon works; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Joint Rules Committee of the Senate and the Assembly, That the Members hereby commend and congratulate Narconon for its successful and effective salvaging of persons who have become involved in criminal or drug/alcohol abuse; and be it further

Resolved, That a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be transmitted to Narconon.
