Proclamation
Whereas, alcohol and drug abuse is a serious problem in our society to the degree that one out of five adult Americans has an alcohol or drug problem that requires treatment; and
Whereas, for twenty-seven years the worldwide Narconon network has been a leader in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse through its education and rehabilitation services; and
Whereas, there are many valiant individuals and groups in the greater bay area that are working to rid our society of the problem of alcohol and drug abuse whose activities are worthy of recognition; and
Whereas, Narconon of Northern California will bestow awards of merit upon certain of these individuals and groups on September 17, 1994:
Now, Therefore, I, Scott Kennedy, Mayor of the City of Santa Cruz, do hereby proclaim September 17, 1994, as "Building a Drug Free Future Day" in the City of Santa Cruz and urge all citizens to join in the cause to ensure the well-being of this and all future generations by taking a strong personal stand against alcohol and drug abuse.
