Living a New Life without Drugs

Narconon Arrowhead graduate Amber

A person addicted to drugs or alcohol suffers deeply from depression and guilt. He (or she) often isolates himself from those he loves. These negative emotions often just lead to more drug use as the addict tries to stop block those feelings. Amber described how she felt when she was trapped in a world of addiction. “When I was addicted, I was feeling sad, depressed, alone and very angry. I didn’t like anything about myself or anyone around me.

She continued. “I had created horrible effects on my family and my friends. My family didn’t trust me. They were worried about me and scared. My friends didn’t trust me. I withdrew from them. I didn’t want to be around my family or my friends whatsoever.”

Her salvation was found in the Narconon program. This drug and alcohol rehabilitation program achieves dramatic improvements for a high percentage of those who do the program. The Narconon program accomplishes lasting recovery through a unique program lineup of treatment. This lineup includes a relatively comfortable withdrawal, a sauna-based detox which removes drug residues from the body and life skills training that prepares the recovering addict for a productive and happy life without drugs.

The sauna-based detox is unique in that it uses a specific proportion of vitamins, minerals, and oils in combination with daily moderate exercise and time in a low-heat sauna. This simple regimen, accompanied by careful monitoring by trained staff, flushes out the residual drugs that accumulate and are stored in fatty tissues. This is an important phase of the program since these stored drugs are known to contribute to the activation of cravings for drugs or alcohol. Once gone, these toxins can no longer cause any ill effects and the participant often states how his (or her) cravings have reduced or even disappeared completely.

Life skills training is a vital part of the recovery program because the recovering addict learns how to weather the stresses that life can throw at him once back home. The stresses he may face are similar to the ones he faced before he turned to drugs, and thus can often lead to relapse. Life skills training provides applicable tools so the student can deal with the problems he may run into. This greatly reduces the chance the recovering addict will turn to drugs or alcohol use again. In addition, these courses provide knowledge which the student can use to restore relationships, improve conditions in his life and rebuild his dreams for the future—all without drugs or alcohol.

Amber stated, “I went through an amazing change in the program where I realized everything I had been doing was not who I am. I found that I was a good person and can do wonderful things.

Giving an addict back her life, providing a real chance at a happy and fulfilling existence without drugs—this is what the highly successful Narconon program gives to those addicted to drugs or alcohol. The sauna detox, the life skills training—all combine to address the physical and mental dependencies of substance abuse and give the greatest chance at a sober life.

Amber finished the drug rehab program at Narconon Arrowhead in Oklahoma.
