What Do You Do When Someone Says They Don’t Need Drug Rehab?
It is one of the worst ironies of addiction that drug abuse itself lowers the awareness of the problem a person is having with drugs. In so many cases, a person may refuse help recovering from drug addiction, may reject the idea of drug rehab, because he or she can’t see the damage. The family may be frantic, trying to resolve the obvious problems and get no cooperation from the addict.
There are several responses addicts may make to an appeal to get help for the drug abuse problem. One is that they feel hurt not to be believed when they say there is no problem. Another is that any problem they are having is because of other people, in particular, the person making the appeal – somehow the tables get turned back on the person trying to help. A third response is that the drug abuser will state that he is going to get this problem under control by himself. He definitely doesn’t need rehabilitation at a treatment center! He will cut back, wean himself off, stop using. There may be profuse promises, even tears and regret expressed.
If the addicted person then gets busy and figures out how to do just that and then does so, all is fine. If this isn’t the next thing that happens, you can assume one thing: The addiction is in control, not the person. In fact, it might help if you were to assume that it was the addiction doing the talking, not the person. It’s as though the addiction wants to protect itself.
So the Person Promised and Then Didn’t Deliver
What’s next after this broken promise? It is pretty safe to make the firm assumption that the person needs help to get clean and sober.
But here is what often happens instead. The family tries to work with the addicted person over and over again. He or she promises to quit again and again. But as time goes on, there are more and more legal and medical expenses, the person loses jobs again and again, there are loans made for rent, car accidents, items are lost from the family’s homes, the possessions of the addicted person disappear as they are converted into drugs. This goes on very often for years until the family is too bankrupt to get the person addiction treatment.
The Other Trap
The other trap families fall into is assuming that every program offering drug rehab is the same as every other. This is far from the truth. Some result in recovery and some result in repeated trips to rehab – three, four, five or more without an effective result.
Narconon Programs Enables One to Achieve Long-term Sobriety
When you want to escape the trap of believing the addict’s promises or of investing in an addiction treatment drug rehab that does not get a result, find out about the Narconon program. The Narconon program helps addicts recover from cravings with a unique phase of recovery called the Narconon New Life Detoxification. This phase offers a critical component of recovery by helping each person flush out stored toxic residues of drug abuse.
As a person abuses drugs, toxic residues are attracted to and lodge in the fatty tissues of the body. There they will remain, helping to trigger cravings even years later, until the right combination of sauna heat, moderate exercise, and nutritional supplements enables the body to dislodge them.
Pair a fresher, clearer viewpoint with improved life skills and self-respect and you have a former addict who is now ready to live a clean and sober life.
