Helping Kids Make Goals Come True

Reaching Goals

Many parents worry about the effect that peer pressure has on their children. Will their child be influenced to use drugs? Engage in risky sex or criminal activities? Finally, someone has put peer pressure to use in a positive way, by inviting young artists to use their talents to encourage teens to achieve goals rather than get sidetracked by unhealthy activities.

In this project, Sigal Adini, the Executive Director of Narconon Drug Prevention & Education, recruited eight young artists in Southern California and invited them to collaborate on an artistic project that would encourage positive values. The result of this collaboration is an illustrated 16-page coloring book titled Make Your Goals Come True, Say No to Drugs! Say Yes to Life!

Each page of this book encourages the heathy pursuit of one’s goals with advice to work hard to achieve goals, take care of one’s health, learn new skills and practice them, and stay away from harmful drugs. Because the illustrations inside the booklet are not colored in, organizations working with youth can use them for coloring contests. While the young people participate in the contest, they also receive a positive message from their peers.

As an added benefit, the young artists featured on the back cover of the booklet had a chance to experience what it is like to use their abilities to help others. These eight young artists all received Community Service Awards for their contributions.

These booklets have been distributed to churches, youth groups and civic organizations across Southern California.
