District of Columbia Resolution Narconon Day of 1991

NARCONON DAY DECLARATION RESOLUTION OF 1991

Councilmember Thomas presents the following Resolution co-sponsored by:

Chairman Wilson, Councilmember Evans, Councilmember Nathanson, Councilmember Brazil, Councilmember Jarvis, Councilmember Ray, Councilmember Crawford, Councilmember Lightfoot, Councilmember Rolark, Councilmember Cropp, Councilmember Mason, Councilmember Smith

Whereas 25 years ago inmate William Benitez founded the Narconon program inside the walls of Arizona State Prison and began the successful rehabilitation of himself and other inmates addicted to heroin and other drugs, including alcohol;

Whereas, there are now 24 Narconon centers located worldwide, including the United States and Canada;

Whereas, Narconon centers around the world have treated and saved thousands of lives and are continuing to save thousands more;

Whereas, Narconon is fighting the war on drugs on 2 fronts: through drug education/prevention presentations delivered in schools, juvenile facilities, community organizations, and through rehabilitating those who have become addicted to alcohol and other drugs;

Whereas, Narconon uses a completely drug-free and effective rehabilitation program; , and

Whereas, the staff and the many volunteers have dedicated their lives to fighting the war on drugs through preventing future generations from becoming addicted and successfully treating those who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs;

Resolved, by the council of the district of columbia, that this resolution may be cited as the “Narconon Day Declaration Resolution Of 1991”

Sec. 2. The Council Of The District Of Columbia recognizes the narconon centers for their contribution to drug prevention, drug education and drug rehabilitation efforts.

This resolution shall take effect immediately.
