Narconon Activities Internationally

In 2003, there were a number of significant opportunities to communicate the results and workability of the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Staff at the international headquarters of Narconon in Los Angeles wasted no time in taking advantage of each.

In February, Narconon staff participated in the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) in Washington DC. This group has more than 5,000 members around the country that work together to create drug-free cities and towns. The membership is composed of parents, teachers, young people, media, law enforcement, healthcare providers, churches and government officials at all levels. Hundreds of people visited the Narconon booth and picked up copies of the “Ten Things Your Friends May Not Know about Drugs” so fast that it was hard to keep booklets on the table. Visitors also learned about the educational program featuring “The Way to Happiness” booklet and the Narconon program itself.

In Los Angeles, the Hispanic population could see Eduardo Garcia, Narconon International’s Latin America Consultant, on Canal 22 (Channel 22, the Spanish-speaking television station). He was interviewed twice on their news program where he explained how the drugs lodge in the body and how addiction could be handled with the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Calls came in from more than a month in response to his appearances.

It seemed like the President of Narconon International hit every corner of the US this year, as he criss-crossed the nation, educating officials and civic leaders on the solutions to addiction.

One of Clark Carr’s stops was in Philadelphia. This is the fifth largest city in the US. It has one of the worst drug problems in the country and nearly 8,000 people incarcerated in the country jail, too many on drug charges. In June, he gave thirty police offices and civic leaders a presentation on the Narconon rehab technology. He included a brief drug education presentation as well. The result was the inclusion of Narconon Peer Leader training in future events of this type.

A symposium in New York City gave Mr. Carr a venue in which he could present information on the Narconon New Life Detoxification that is part of the drug rehabilitation program. In Manhattan, this program is also being used by the New York Detox Center to help rescue workers recover their health after being exposed to the toxic clouds of dust, dirt and debris from the World Trade Center disaster.

On the 28th of May, Mr. Carr appeared on a Boston television show to discuss the explosion of heroin abuse in New England. Host Barry Nolan of Nightbeat dedicated an hour of the news show to drug rehabilitation activities and drug policies. Mr. Carr’s message on drug recovery the Narconon way was viewed in more than two million homes. His message was clear: the Narconon program results in lasting sobriety.

Mr. Carr was invited to two appearances at the Juvenile Drug Court Judges Conference in Washington DC. At his two appearances, Mr. Carr gave speeches titled “Compelling Involvement of Parents in Juvenile Drug Court” and “Involving the Faith Community.” He was accompanied by the Executive Director of Narconon East US who answered questions and provided literature to visitors at the Narconon booth at the expo that was part of the event. Hundreds of visiting judges, probation officers and rehab professional visited the booth and learned more about Narconon. While he was in Washington, Mr. Carr used this opportunity to meet with State Department senior staff in charge of India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mr. Carr briefed the officers on the progress being made in bringing the Narconon program to Asia.
