John Elliott Heads Narconon in Isles

The National Office of Narconon, a rapidly expanding crime and narcotic rehabilitation program, announced from Los Angeles, that the Reverend John W. Elliott, Senior Minister of the Church of Scientology, has been appointed Director of Narconon for the Hawaii area.

The Narconon program was started on an experimental basis in 1966 by former 19 year heroin addict, Willie Benitez, at Arizona State Prison. Benitez started with 20 heroin addicts and now the program has over 160 men and is no longer restricted to drug addicts.

In addition to its Arizona State Prison success, 16 new programs have been started in the United States and Canada in the last two years. Narconon has also obtained its tax exempt non-profit status, started community narcotics and crime rehabilitation programs, opened its National Office, expanded its national staff, and has produced some of the best results on narcotics addicts yet to be produced in the United States.

According to Elliott, “Narconon-Hawaii is ready to go. What we are doing now is working on finding the right location at the right price and funding for the program.

Is the drug abuse problem solvable? “Many people today would say no, let’s learn to live with it. Others – let the government handle it. But from another quarter, Narconon, the country’s fastest expanding drug prevention and rehabilitation program, the answer is a resounding yes,” says Elliott.
