WHEREAS, Alcohol and Drug Abuse is a serious problem in our society to the degree that one out of five adult Americans has an alcohol or drug problem that requires treatment; and
WHEREAS, For thirty-four years the worldwide Narconon Network has been a leader in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse through its education and rehabilitation services; and
WHEREAS, There are many valiant individuals and groups in the Santa Cruz and greater bay area that are working to rid our society of the problem of alcohol and drug abuse; and
WHEREAS, The activities of these individuals and groups are worthy of recognition; and
WHEREAS, Narconon of Northern California will bestow awards of merit to exemplary staff on June 9, 2000;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Oscar Rios, Mayor of the City of Watsonville, in the State of California, do hereby commend Narconon for their outstanding service to the local community and the world.
