Whereas, Alcohol and Drug Abuse is a serious problem in our society to the degree that one out of five adult Americans has an alcohol or drug problem that requires treatment; and

Whereas, there are many valiant individuals and groups in the Greater Bay Area that are working to rid our society and the problem of alcohol and drug abuse; and

Whereas, the activities of these individuals and groups are worthy of recognition; and

Whereas, Narconon of Northern California will bestow Awards of Merit to certain of these individuals and groups on September, 25, 1993;

Now, Therefore, I, Lowell Hurst, Mayor, of the City of Watsonville, in the State of California, do hereby proclaim September, 17, 1994 as “Building A Drug Free Future Day” in the City of Watsonville and urge all citizens to join in the cause to ensure the well-being of this and all future generations by taking a stand against drug and alcohol abuse.
