PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, alcohol and drug abuse is a serious problem in our society to the degree that one out of five adult Americans has an alcohol or drug problem that requires treatment; and

WHEREAS, for twenty-six years the world wide Narconon network has been a leader in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse through its education and rehabilitation services; and

WHEREAS, there are many valiant individuals and groups in the Greater Bay Area that are working to rid our society and the problem of alcohol and drug abuse; and

WHEREAS, the activities of these individuals and groups are worthy of recognition; and

WHEREAS, Narconon of Northern California will bestow Awards of Merit to certain of these individuals and groups on September, 25, 1993;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PHYLLIS CARTER, Mayor of the City of Sonoma, do hereby proclaim September, 25, 1993 as

BUILDING A DRUG FREE FUTURE DAY

in our city and urge all citizens to join in the cause to ensure the well-being of this and all future generations by taking a stand against drug and alcohol abuse.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Sonoma to be affixed this 1st day of September, 1993.
