Deck the Halls Event Held at Narconon Arrowhead Facility

Every year, the people who are spending their holidays at the Narconon center in Oklahoma get to spend time one afternoon putting up Christmas decorations throughout the building, a large former resort situated on the shores of scenic Eufaula Lake. Narconon Arrowhead ‘Decking the Halls’ for Christmas

christmas decorationsPeople who spend their holidays in rehab may feel like they’re going to be missing out on the festivities, but those who are are Narconon Arrowhead this year don’t have to have that problem. The staff and students of the Narconon center in Oklahoma are kicking off the holiday season with a “Deck the Halls” party early in December. It’s a yearly tradition, and everyone works together to decorate the building for the Christmas holiday, including a beautiful tree in the lobby. Decorating the center is not all that the people at Narconon Arrowhead do, and indeed the holiday season sees a flurry of activities to celebrate the occasion, spread the spirit of the holiday, and to have fun while doing it. They don’t want to miss out on everything, or maybe they are concerned about letting their loved ones down by not being there for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Likewise, the family of an addict might sometimes encourage him or her to put rehab off until after the holidays, not wanting to be apart and thinking maybe that the spirit of the season will somehow help to provide a buffer against the problems that come with substance abuse. Fortunately, it doesn’t always have to be an either/or choice. Narconon Arrowhead Observes Red Ribbon Week 2014

oct calendarFrom October 23rd through the 31st, the staff and students of Narconon Arrowhead celebrated Red Ribbon Week, annual event which is part of the broader Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign, sponsored by the National Family Partnership. Throughout the week, Narconon Arrowhead was working to spread the message of Red Ribbon Week, which this year was summed up with the theme “Love Yourself. Be Drug Free.” Red Ribbon Week is all about promoting awareness of the dangers of drug use and the negative impacts of drugs on the individual and society, and Narconon Arrowhead is a strong supporter of the event. Narconon Arrowhead Participates in Red Ribbon Week

drug freeEvery year for nearly three decades, individuals, families and organizations around the United States have been donning red ribbons in a sign of solidarity for the Red Ribbon Campaign. This nationwide movement found its beginnings in 1985, when a man named Enrique Camarena was brutally tortured and murdered at the hands of agents of a drug cartel in Mexico. The Mechanics of Addiction is based on Smith’s decades of experience in the field addiction treatment, and it offers a wealth of information to people who are facing the problems of substance abuse in a loved one or in their own lives. It is one of the aspects of life that suffers the most while a person is suffering from addiction, as the addict’s relationships with parents, children, siblings and spouses steadily deteriorate. A person who falls into the trap of addiction will often be heard lamenting the fact that his or her substance abuse has cost the trust and happiness that they once enjoyed in the home. Family is also one of the strongest magnets that pull a person back from the brink of ruin, giving an addict the encouragement and incentive to decide to quit and make it through rehab to a recovery.
