Think Young People Have Stopped Using Synthetic Drugs? Think Again.

What you can do about synthetic drug abuse bookletIn the early days of synthetic drugs, it was possibly understandable that many people were willing to try these drugs. After all, not much was known about them. They were new to the market and for awhile, many of them were legal. Stores that sold them could assure their customers that they were buying a legal drug. So how could it harm them? It was legal!

As soon as legislators could catch up with the trade in synthetics, they would make the drugs illegal. Manufacturers would then change a molecule or two and then they would have a new drug that would need to be outlawed again.

But when the reports of the many problems caused by these drugs got into the media, you would think that these drug users – many of whom but not all are fairly young – would stop endangering themselves by using them. Apparently, this is not the case. A recent report from New York City noted an increase in the number of people arriving at emergency rooms with problem from synthetic use. In 2014, the number of ER trips from synthetic marijuana alone increased 220%.

We’re really far from overcoming this problem.

Taylor Snider’s Story

Taylor Snider in coma after molly abuseHere’s another story that tells how serious this problem is. Not long ago, some young people going to music festivals or dance clubs began to use a new drug called Molly. This is just a crystal form of Ecstasy and was reputed to be purer and perhaps safer than a pill. Some people might be able to escape harm when they use this drug but some are not so lucky. Like Taylor Snider.

This beautiful young woman recently posted her story to Facebook. The first time she tried Molly, she began vomiting, suffered seizures and then went into a coma she was not expected to come out of. Fortunately for her and her family, she did recover. She shared her story to keep others from suffering the same fate. This is the picture she posted of her time in the Intensive Care Unit.
