Staggering New Report Says Most Men Arrested Test Positive For Drugs

This report comes from the Center for Health and Justice and is based on a compilation of statistics from arrests in monitoring sites scattered across the country. These arrests, all in 2011, were in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New York, Portland, Sacramento and Washington DC.

The smallest ratio of men arrested who were stoned or high was in Atlanta. There, only 64% of the arrestees were intoxicated. But in Chicago and Sacramento, more than eight out of every ten arrestees tested positive for drugs.

In response to this report, the US Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske stated: “…too often underlying substance use disorders are the driving force of criminal activity taking place in our communities…we cannot simply arrest our way out of the drug problem.”
Extricating the US from this dreadful influence of drug and alcohol abuse means that there must be effective drug rehabilitation offered to those who need it. The more that rehab helps people recover from addiction, the fewer future crimes will be committed. And these numbers will start to fall.

Is Short Term Rehab The Answer

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, their document Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment mandates an addiction treatment program of 90 days or longer to get the best results. A series of support meetings may not be enough to help most people find sobriety, given the desperate cravings of many drug addicts.

A long term treatment program that enables a person to get out of the usual environment of drug abuse and away from drug-using friends has a better chance of success. This program must address the key elements that keep an addicted person trapped: the cravings, the depression and the guilt that accompany addiction. Without lifting these three burdens from an addicted person, he (or she) may always struggle.

How the Narconon Drug Rehab Program Works  Narconon programs around the world are long-term programs, most of them residential. None of them use any drugs as part of treatment; instead, nutritional supplements and one-on-one assistance with the staff are key factors that help a person through withdrawal and hard physical and emotional points in the program.

The Narconon drug rehab helps lift guilt and depression by replacing the destruction of addiction with a bright new life. It does not happen overnight. The person in recovery must do the work, must learn the new life skills, and must participate in the deep detoxification process that flushes out old drug toxins that can be involved in triggering cravings. This detoxification program boosts energy and brightens thinking by utilizing time in a sauna, nutritional supplements and moderate daily exercise to activate the body’s ability to discharge toxins. Once they are flushed out, those completing this step talk about their improved outlook and energy and reduced cravings. Some people even say those cravings are gone.

The entire Narconon drug rehab program takes three to five months for most people; some people who feel the need for more repairs may take longer. The fee is the same, despite any additional length of time used for recovery. The idea is the result of a drug-free life that lasts long after the person graduates and goes home.

Because the program directly addresses these factors of cravings, guilt and depression, those in this program have a 70% chance of staying sober. That’s the surveyed success rate of this drug rehab program.
