Let’s Put Sobriety in the Right Light
You see plenty of advertisements for alcohol and for prescription drugs on television and in magazines, but unfortunately, there’s not a matching number of advertisements for sobriety. Sure, everyone knows that sobriety is a choice we all have but one might wish that there was a little more reinforcement for this idea.
There are some celebrities who set an example for others by not using drugs or drinking. Some of them first went through their drinking or drug problems before they quit but in other cases, it was just a choice. Perhaps they looked at other people having problems and made their own decisions to stay sober.
Huffington Post posted a list of celebrities who don’t drink. Their list includes Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Hudson, Blake Lively, Russell Brand, Christina Ricci, Jennifer Lopez, Colin Farrell and others. Of course, Matthew Perry is a spokesperson for sobriety after his recovery from addiction. Actress Edie Falco plays a nurse addicted to pills for television, but she herself has been sober for 21 years.
There’s a lot of people who just make the choice to be sober because they have more fun this way and their lives go better. Narconon has created graphics to help make this idea more popular and you are welcome to share them if you like.
There’s a lot of talk on television and the internet against using this drug or that one. And about the problems of overdoses or injury because of drug use. There are volumes written on these topics.
On the other side of the whole matter, there’s the simple healthy side of living sober. When we’re sober, we’re just ourselves.
When we live sober, we’re more capable of doing our best work, getting our best education, being the best parent, brother, sister, friend or professional. We never do our best when we are impaired.
Life’s greatest moments really are sober. Those are the moments we treasure when we see our babies for the first time when we reach great goals, when we travel somewhere we always wanted to visit or even when we just enjoy a great laugh with friends.
Don’t you think it would be good if there could be more emphasis on the benefits of being sober?
